Western Renewables Link

Large energy transmission towers running across a field

Location:

Near Bulgana in western Victoria to Sydenham in Melbourne’s north-west.

Timeframe:

Environment Effects Statement exhibition and panel inquiry - 2025.
Project target completion date - 2027.

Overview

We’ve been contracted by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to deliver the Western Renewables Link, a 190km long high-voltage electricity transmission line. The proposed route will run from Bulgana Terminal Station to Sydenham Terminal Station.

Why we’re doing this

The Western Renewables Link is critical infrastructure that will unlock access to renewable energy generated in western Victoria. This will help deliver clean and affordable energy to all Victorians.

Planning and mitigation

Extensive planning and investigations are currently underway to ensure:

  • the potential impacts of this project are identified
  • alternative designs are considered to minimise the overall impact
  • appropriate mitigation measures are in place for impacts that can’t be avoided.

Environment Effects Statement

We are currently finalising the Environment Effects Statement (EES) for the project, as required by the Victorian Government. We expect the public exhibition of the EES and the associated panel inquiry and public hearing to take place in 2025.
